Do You Have An Elegant Speech?

I was having lunch today with my in-laws and I noticed a father and his daughter sitting next to each other, having a very pleasant conversation.

They stood out in the midst of the rushing lunch crowd because of their smiles, gentleness and poise.

My father-in-law noticed them too. A few moments ago, he was within earshot while queuing. He told me he was very impressed by the way the little girl spoke.

She spoke very well, using correct grammar and tenses, asking and answering in complete sentences.

I would be impressed by her father, who held his own to speak to his daughter that way, I suppose starting her in good habits and spurring her on to develop these abilities. (Elegant Motherhood mental note!)

Like in all moments of elegant inspirations, I did a self-check and found myself to be far from where I would like to be. As far as speech is concerned at this point. I vowed to make changes...

An elegant speech is one quality of an elegant person. It is a mark of a refined person.

Daniela from Mexico

I've decided that I want to archive letters from precious friends across the globe. These letters serve more than encouragement and affirmation to me - they are special hugs from Heaven.

P.s. I won't reveal their full names in case they want their privacy.

----

Here is an email from Daniela from Mexico.

I just wanted to thank you. I have been reading your web site since last year and it's always a nice inspiration. It has helped me to reaffirm the idea that even if money comes and goes nourishing our art of conversation, poise, decorating with taste wherever we live is something we can take in our life journey. It has helped me with my kids education, at work, with my family and friends through good times and bad times. Thank you

Away from Desk

Hello everyone!

Just a quick note that I'm unable to reply to emails for the next couple of weeks because I'll be overseeing some projects. I'll reply as soon as I can after.

I've added several new pages and sections, there'll be lots to read till I get back!

Take care,

Eunice

What Kind Of Mother Do You Dream To Be?

In my recent study on Classical Education and its benefits for elegance, I've been going back to my old books in my personal library and rereading them again in new light.

Studying about how people and children learn has conjured in me 'motherhood dreams'. It makes me wonder what sort of mother I hope to be, dream to be.

This has led me to open up a whole new section on Elegantwoman.org

I've been planning a section on Elegant Motherhood for a while now, but I feel inept in the subject as I am not yet a mother.

However, what I can offer is not an insight of personal experience but reviews from many far more experienced and inspirational women.

So anyway, like all things, every worthy section takes time to build... stay tuned. Meanwhile, enjoy Elegant Motherhood Stories.

Elegant Motherhood

In my recent study on Classical Education, I've been going back to my old books, rereading them again in new light.

I've been planning a section on Elegant Motherhood for a while now, but I feel inept in the subject as I am not yet a mother. However, I've been reading these books for years, since I was a child because I was interested in education and learning. What I can offer is not an insight of personal experience but reviews from many far more experienced authors.

Also, if I might add... my family went through issues as well when I was young and when my mother left overseas to work for a sufficiently long period, I helped out in her role as mother to my younger brother.

If you are not yet a mother, you might still benefit from reading early into this subject and that will result in you being more prepared and not have to feel rushed to absorb all these new information and advice from just anybody who has an opinion. You can make your decisions now and be a better filter - you can decide on how you want to parent, what kind of elegant mother you'll become.

If you are an elegant mother, please feel free to share your experiences and resources by emailing me or adding a comment below. :)

What inspired me to pioneer a section on Elegant Motherhood?

One of our readers who wrote to me asking for more articles on Elegant Motherhood. She also felt it was impossible to be an Elegant Mother. She feels hurried, a lack of sleep, frustrations etc...

My reading today which inspired this post is an old book by Helen Andelin, All About Raising Children.

She says,

A generation of excellent children would have a profound effect upon society. We would eliminate vice, corruption, violence and most of our social problems. Instead, our youth would begin to build our country in a positive way. Our children would be our country's greatest wealth.
Another great quote...

"Our country's most precious possession is not our vast acres of rangeland supporting flocks and herds; not our mines and oil wells producing fabulous wealth. Our country's greatest resource is our children." - David O McKay

Lovely Leatherbound Books

While I love affordable books, I greatly miss the availability of leather bound books.

That is why I was so happy to find this in an antique shop in a small California coastal town. It was just in time to replace my greatly beloved paper classics which are over fifteen years old, and sporting missing pages.

What are some of the things you love but can't get anymore?

What Does Your Home Say About You?

While I love this quote, and how it inspires me to display lovely things around, things I love...

It also makes me rethink what I leave lying about my house.

Instead of being constantly at war with clutter, I've decided, everything that is not necessary has to be eliminated.

Elegance is all about elimination. This little gem of wisdom took me a while to realize.
